There are two ways to properly balance tires, ON VEHICLE (strobe) or OFF VEHICLE (computer) both are adequate. COMPUTER style balancing is less expensive and usually done when tires are changed, please remember your balancing tire and wheel only.
STROBE style balancing is the best way to balance front tires period! When this procedure is done you are also balancing the front hub, brake drum and or rotor. It’s a great way to check for bad wheel bearings without the expense of tearing vehicle hub apart and inspecting bearings, ask yourself how much road service would be if you broke down due to a bearing, spindle meltdown? Chick's Frame & Wheel does both Computer and Strobe style balancing.
A word of warning DON’T GET COUGHT UP IN FADS!
Balancing Rings, Granulated glass beads or powder DO NOT WORK!
If you were to look at directions on Rings before installing it will advise you must BALANCE the tire before installing Rings?....So why did you just spend up to $300.00 for a set Balancing of Rings when they ask you to Balance tires.
Granulated glass beads or Balancing powder is the worst not only does it NOT WORK the compound used gets into valve stem seats.
Again I hate to be so negative but when marketing prevails over common sense someone has to come forward to set the record straight. Rings and Powder are used bye unequipped shops and or uninformed Mechanics. Back in the 1970’s There was a thing called balancing fluid it took a few years before the public figured it out, how could they not the steering wheel and seat vibrated. I have seen it all over the thirty years of experience Golf balls, Marbles, Chalk…..ect.
Spinning the tire up on vehicle is the finale word it either shakes or it doesn’t!
